CJ Desai, formerly of MongoDB, will head up the initiative. MongoDB will host an investor day on Tuesday. MongoDB's CEO is leaving to take a new role at Meta Platforms, less than a year after joining the database-software company. Chirantan "CJ" Desai will become chief enterprise platform officer at Meta (META) as part of a new initiative at the Facebook parent company. CEO Mark Zuckerberg announced the creation of Meta Enterprise Platform, which he called "the next major pillar" of the company's business. The new business unit aims to make it easier for companies and developers to leverage Meta products like the buzzy Muse artificial-intelligence assistant, as well as coding programs and application-programming interfaces. MongoDB's stock (MDB) slid 18.6% on Monday, while Meta's declined nearly 5%. Dev Ittycheria, who served as MongoDB's CEO for more than a decade through 2025, is reassuming the top post in an interim capacity while the company searches for a full-time replacement for Desai. "MongoDB's business is strong, and there is no better person to take on the role of president and CEO in the interim than Dev Ittycheria," Tom Killalea, the company's board chair, said in a release. Cantor Fitzgerald analyst Thomas Blakey wrote that, "importantly," MongoDB stuck with its full-year forecast while disclosing the CEO transition. The company is due to hold an investor day on Tuesday. William Blair's Jackson Ader highlighted that this is MongoDB's second CEO transition in less than a year, which he called "an unusual level of leadership turnover for a company entering a period where execution around AI strategy and platform expansion is arguably more important than ever." He called Ittycheria "the most credible stabilizing force available" but noted that the sudden change will likely shake up Tuesday's investor day. "While the event aims to provide deeper insight into the company's long-term product strategy, AI roadmap, and financial framework, we believe management will now need to spend considerable time reassuring investors on organizational stability and leadership," Ader wrote. As for Meta, Baird's Colin Sebastian likened the hiring of Desai to Google's recruitment of Thomas Kurian to lead its cloud business back in 2018.
