# OpenAI Scraps Launch of Upcoming Model Amid Rising Safety Concerns

OpenAI has decided not to release its upcoming artificial intelligence model GPT-6.1 Astra because the company believes the model does not sufficiently meet its safety standards, CNBC confirmed on Monday.

OpenAI's decision to abandon the launch comes as the AI industry faces mounting concerns over the safety of advanced models. 

Earlier this month, Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei had called on foundation model laboratories to slow the pace of model development in an article, amid market concerns that the technology could move beyond human control.
