The collaboration was announced on Monday under a multi-year strategic partnership between Alibaba and Brooklyn Sports & Entertainment, the parent company of the basketball team. It would also see Alibaba become Brooklyn Nets’ official jersey patch sponsor ahead of the basketball team’s 60th anniversary season, according to a joint statement by the two parties. Under the deal, Alibaba would leverage its cloud infrastructure to power a new real-time 360-degree replay system at the Barclays Centre in New York City, the home arena of the team, delivering faster and more innovative broadcast replays starting in the upcoming 2026-27 NBA season. The company would also introduce “Nets Figure Lab” – a digital activation allowing attendees to generate personalised collectible cards in the arena using Alibaba’s proprietary technology, the announcement said. “Alibaba has long partnered with leading sports organisations worldwide, giving us a deep understanding of how to deliver technology at the scale and speed live sports demand,” Toby Xu, Alibaba’s chief financial officer, said in a statement on Monday. Brooklyn Nets and its home arena are owned by Joe Tsai, who co-founded Alibaba in 1999 and currently serves as its chairman. The Brooklyn Nets’ collaboration builds on Alibaba Cloud’s growing footprint in the global sports industry. The company became a worldwide partner of the International Olympic Committee in 2017, and most recently powered cloud-based broadcasting and AI-driven sustainability platforms for the Milano Cortina 2026 Winter Olympics. The announcement comes days after Alibaba Cloud introduced what it called China’s most powerful artificial intelligence chip at the company’s annual Apsara Conference, as the company doubles down on full-stack AI capabilities from models and cloud computing services to chips. It also teased plans to train an AI model with up to 10 trillion parameters.
