Analyst Atif Malik argues agentic AI will drive significantly higher compute demand than traditional chatbots due to continuous operation and multi-step tasks. This follows AMD's strong Q2 data center revenue growth of 107% year-over-year. The upgrade highlights potential for substantial CPU market expansion by 2030, though risks include slower agent adoption or Nvidia's dominance."

# Citi Resets AMD Stock Price Target For 2026

Advanced Micro Devices shares rose after Citi sharply raised its price target to $800 from $575, arguing that agentic AI could drive a much larger wave of computing demand than traditional chatbots. The call gives AMD another major Wall Street endorsement just as investors debate how long the AI infrastructure boom can keep accelerating.

Citi analyst Atif Malik reiterated a Buy rating and said the CPU market could reach $300 billion by 2030 as always-on AI agents create substantially heavier workloads.

We update our CPU model following the launch of several personal AI agents, including Muse, Dots, Instinct, GrokBot and GeminiSpark, Malik wrote. Fundamentally, we view agentic AI as a potential orders-of-magnitude driver of compute demand relative to traditional chatbots.

The distinction matters because agents can run continuously, execute multi-step tasks and generate far more inference activity than systems that respond only when users submit prompts.

That thesis arrives as AMD's data-center business is already accelerating. Second-quarter Data Center revenue jumped 107% year over year to $6.7 billion, driven by EPYC processors and Instinct MI350 GPUs, while total revenue climbed 50% to $11.5 billion. AMD expects third-quarter revenue of about $13 billion, plus or minus $300 million, implying roughly 41% growth at the midpoint.

Citi's framework also highlights the potential scale of agentic AI infrastructure. Malik estimates 100 million daily users of Meta's Muse could require roughly 200,000 to 390,000 Blackwell-class GPUs.

****Investor Takeaway****

The $800 target depends on agentic AI producing sustained compute growth rather than a short-lived infrastructure surge. Investors should watch AMD's Data Center revenue, EPYC server-share gains, Instinct GPU deployments and gross margins.

The strongest confirmation would be continued triple-digit or near-triple-digit data-center growth alongside broader adoption of AI agents across enterprises and consumers.

The risk is that agent usage scales more slowly than expected, customers become more efficient with existing hardware, or Nvidia maintains enough accelerator dominance to limit AMD's share gains. AMD's third-quarter results will be the next major test of whether current demand is keeping pace with increasingly aggressive expectations.
