# Hotter-than-Expected US Inflation Reinforces Fed Rate Hike Bets; S Korea KOSPI Slumps 6%, Nasdaq Futures Down Nearly 1%

US inflation data came in above expectations, reinforcing market expectations for Federal Reserve rate hikes. Asian equities tracked declines in Wall Street tech stocks. South Korea's KOSPI index fell for the fourth consecutive trading day, slumping 6.06% to 5,644 points. Samsung Electronics and SK Hynix dropped more than 6%, while the Korea Exchange activated circuit breakers and suspended KOSPI program sell orders.

Market confidence in tech stocks remained weak, with Nasdaq 100 futures falling nearly 1%. Japan's Nikkei index also dropped 3.35% to 65,472 points. SoftBank Group (9984.JP) plunged more than 8%, while Kioxia (285A.JP) also fell more than 9%.

Overnight (14th), the Nasdaq closed down 1.88%, marking its biggest decline since late July. Tech stocks bore the brunt of the selloff as markets anticipated Federal Reserve rate hikes, intensifying concerns over excessive valuations and the huge costs of AI infrastructure construction. The semiconductor stock index, including NVIDIA Corporation (NVDA.US) and Broadcom Inc. (AVGO.US) , declined for a sixth consecutive trading day, marking the longest losing streak since May last year.
