# Report: SK Hynix Seeks Increased Exports of US Chip Equipment to China as Condition for Building US Plant

Reuters, citing sources, reported that SK Hynix is seeking approval from the US government to export US chip manufacturing equipment to China to boost local production, and is using this as a condition for building plants in the US.

The US government has been urging SK Hynix, Samsung Electronics and other foreign chipmakers to build factories in the US to support the rebuilding of US manufacturing capacity and create jobs.

Reportedly, Solidigm, the US subsidiary of SK Hynix, hopes to install new equipment in unused space at SK Hynix's Dalian plant for NAND chip production. The factory is currently using tools from major US semiconductor equipment makers including Lam Research Corporation (LRCX.US) , Applied Materials, Inc. (AMAT.US) and KLA Corporation (KLAC.US) .

SK Hynix said in a statement that the Mod B fab at its Dalian NAND plant was completed in 2023 and there are currently no expansion plans. The installation of equipment at the fab was carried out in close consultation with and with authorization from the US government.
