# SpaceX vs. Tesla: Wall Street Sees Over 3X More Upside in One Elon Musk Stock After the Roadster Demo

Elon Musk has never been particularly interested in doing things the conventional way. Just when investors think they've seen everything, the billionaire entrepreneur finds another seemingly impossible project to pursue. At **SpaceX (NASDAQ:SPCX)**, that has meant developing reusable rockets, launching the world's largest satellite internet network, and building Starship, a spacecraft designed to eventually carry humans to Mars. And with each technological achievement, Musk seems determined to prove that yesterday's science fiction can become tomorrow's reality.

His latest demonstration, however, didn't involve sending another rocket into orbit. On Thursday, **Tesla (NASDAQ:TSLA)** finally unveiled its long-awaited second-generation Roadster at a SpaceX facility in Texas, and this electric sports car did something few expected to see outside a Hollywood movie. Using technology developed alongside SpaceX engineers, the vehicle drove upside down, launched itself into the air, performed an airborne maneuver, and landed safely.

The Roadster, which Tesla now expects to begin producing in 2028, can accelerate from zero to 60 mph in under one second. However, its most spectacular flying configuration won't be available for ordinary road use.

For Tesla investors, the demonstration offers another reminder of the company's engineering capabilities and its ability to generate excitement around future products. Yet, the Roadster is unlikely to become a significant revenue contributor anytime soon, particularly as Tesla directs much of its investment toward autonomous driving, Cybercab robotaxis, and humanoid robots.

Meanwhile, the implications for SpaceX are more indirect. The Roadster showcases the potential applications of its propulsion expertise beyond aerospace, while the collaboration could encourage further speculation about a possible merger between Musk's two publicly traded companies.

So, which of Musk's two companies offers the better investment opportunity? Wall Street sees upside potential in both stocks, although analysts expect one to deliver more than three times the gains of the other over the next 12 months.

## Tesla's Next Test Goes Beyond the Roadster

Tesla's immediate priorities extend well beyond its newest sports car. The automaker delivered 486,532 vehicles during the third quarter, exceeding market expectations, while energy storage deployments reached 13.7 GWh. Investors will get a clearer picture of profitability when Tesla reports earnings on October 21, with automotive margins, spending, and progress in autonomous driving likely to matter more than the Roadster's flying capabilities.

Wall Street, meanwhile, remains cautiously optimistic about TSLA's prospects. Based on 27 analyst ratings, the stock holds a Moderate Buy consensus, comprising 14 Buys, 11 Holds, and 2 Sells. The average 12-month price target stands at $404.87, suggesting upside of ~14% from current levels. (See **TSLA stock forecast**)
