description: "Intel shares fell 3.9% to $91.61 as TSMC's comments on advanced packaging capacity intensified competition for Intel's expansion efforts. While no customers were lost, TSMC's ambition highlights the pressure on Intel to scale its foundry business. Intel's second-quarter foundry segment reported a $2.089 billion operating loss, representing 36.2% of revenue. With the stock trading significantly above GF Value estimates, investors expect concrete packaging milestones and improved factory economics to justify the premium valuation."

# Intel Stocks Fall 3.9% as TSMC's Packaging Comments Challenge Its Expansion

Intel, the processor and chip manufacturing group , faces fresh advanced-packaging competition, with shares at $91.61, down approximately 3.94%, at 11:17 a.m. ET on October 16. According to TipRanks, TSMC has signaled it can support customers if competing packaging capacity falls short. That raises the stakes for Intel's expansion. It does not establish that Intel has lost a customer or an order.

TSMC's earnings transcript outlines its packaging technology ambitions, underscoring the pressure Intel faces to deliver at scale. Intel's own numbers show why execution matters: its second-quarter results recorded $5.765 billion in Foundry revenue and a $2.089 billion operating loss. That puts the loss at roughly 36.2% of segment revenue. Revenue includes internal transactions, and those figures cover the broader Foundry business rather than packaging alone. Winning work is one hurdle. Making it profitable is another.

The valuation leaves little room for disappointment: Intel's $91.61 share price stands 182.92% above its $32.38 GF Value estimate. That premium suggests investors are already paying for substantial improvement, even while Foundry remains deeply unprofitable. The next test is concrete: deliver packaging milestones, convert demand into production and narrow the losses. Technology progress matters, but stronger factory economics would give the turnaround more financial weight.
