What's Going On With Micron Technology Stock Friday?

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Micron Technology (MU) stock rose nearly 4% on Friday, outperforming the broader technology sector as investors returned to semiconductor stocks following a recent selloff. This rebound occurred despite mixed U.S. market performance and weak advance-decline ratios. The gain coincided with rival SK hynix halting its Solidigm IPO due to market volatility. Technical indicators suggest the recovery is fragile, with the stock trading below key moving averages and facing resistance near $1,042.50. Analysts maintain Buy ratings with price targets around $1,622-$1,900.

Micron Technology Inc. (NASDAQ:MU) stock rose nearly 4% Friday as semiconductor stocks rebounded from Thursday’s technology-led selloff.

The recovery came despite mixed performance across major U.S. indexes. The Nasdaq Composite gained 0.56%, while the S&P 500 slipped 0.13%.

Technology stocks gained 1%, making the sector the second-best performer among the S&P 500’s 11 sectors.

However, the broader market remained weak. Only three sectors advanced, while the advance-decline ratio stood at 0.4, signaling that declining stocks outnumbered gainers.

Energy led the market with a 2.91% gain, while consumer staples fell 1.69%.

Micron outperformed the broader technology sector, suggesting investors were selectively buying semiconductor stocks rather than participating in a marketwide rally.

SK Hynix Scraps Solidigm IPO Plans

Micron rival SK hynix Inc. (NASDAQ:SKHY) also gained Friday after the South Korean chipmaker halted plans for a U.S. initial public offering of its flash-memory subsidiary, Solidigm.

SK hynix cited market volatility and the recent semiconductor stock correction. However, the company said Solidigm’s growth prospects and investment needs remain unchanged.

SK hynix will continue exploring financing options to support Solidigm’s expansion.

The decision added another development for memory-chip investors amid concerns about industry supply, AI spending and the cost of expanding production capacity.

Technical Analysis

Micron’s longer-term trend remains bullish, with its 50-day simple moving average above its 200-day average. Its 20-day average also remains above the 50-day average.

However, the stock trades about 10% below its 20-day average and 9.6% below its 50-day average. This suggests Friday’s gain is a rebound attempt rather than a confirmed breakout.

The moving average convergence divergence, or MACD, indicator remains below its signal line. Its negative histogram also points to weaker momentum.

Traders may look for a bullish MACD crossover to confirm a stronger recovery.

The stock faces resistance near $1,042.50, while support stands around $887.50.

Sector Performance

Micron gained about 3.6%, outperforming the Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund (NYSE:XLK), which rose 1%.

Meanwhile, Micron shares have surged nearly 330% over the past year. The recent pullback highlights continued volatility despite the stock’s longer-term gains.
