# ByteDance Accelerates Embodied AI Strategy as Seed Team Intensifies Recruitment

**Star Market Daily, October 26 (Reporter Xu Cihao)** ByteDance is accelerating its layout in the embodied intelligence business.

A reporter from Star Market Daily noted that information on ByteDance's official website and recruitment platforms shows that its Seed Model team has updated a batch of robot-related job openings. These cover dozens of directions, including body design, dexterous hands, reducer control, simulation engineering, and data algorithm engineering, with hardware, software, and data pipelines being rolled out simultaneously.

From the perspective of job structure, the hardware side involves body structure, reducers, dexterous hands, electrical wiring harnesses, and embedded drivers. Candidates are required to possess capabilities in mechanical design, transmission optimization, and communication architecture design, with an emphasis on lifespan, reliability, cost, manufacturability, and mass production experience.

On the software side, the focus is on the complete link from user commands to robot task execution, including Agent invocation for mobility, manipulation, and interaction capabilities, as well as failure recovery, remote access, and device operations. Roles in data and evaluation require building a closed loop spanning data collection, processing, training, evaluation, and model feedback.

Regarding ByteDance's planning for its robotics business, Star Market Daily sent interview requests to ByteDance, but had not received a response by the time of publication.

In fact, ByteDance has previously advanced its embodied intelligence layout through self-developed models, robot bodies, ecological cooperation, and investment and financing.

Since 2023, ByteDance has successively launched the GR-1 and GR-2 robot operation models, exploring the transfer of knowledge learned from internet videos to robot operations. In 2025, the ByteDance Seed team further released the GR-3 model and its self-developed dual-arm mobile robot, ByteMini, and expanded capabilities into human-computer interaction, task planning, and long-term fine manipulation through research such as Robix and GR-RL.

Furthermore, according to previous industry news, ByteDance's cumulative production of wheeled logistics robots over two and a half years has exceeded 1,000 units, serving clients such as Douyin E-commerce, BYD, and SF Express. On the investment front, ByteDance invested in Jiazhi Technology and Future Robotics as early as 2021, and participated in the RMB 1 billion A++ round of financing for Zibianliang Robotics in January this year.

Notably, robotics is becoming a common area of investment for model companies. In an interview, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman stated that OpenAI Robotics is hiring full-stack hardware, operations, systems, and machine learning engineers, with the goal of programming and manufacturing robots that are useful to society.

He also mentioned that the short-term goal is to help skilled workers build robots for future infrastructure, while the long-term hope is for everyone to have a personal robot that can perform any required tasks for them.

Meanwhile, DeepSeek subscribed to the strategic placement of UNITREE's STAR Market IPO with RMB 140.8 million, subject to a 36-month lock-up period. Recent news also suggests that DeepSeek is preparing to lead the investment in a robotics AI company established only a few months ago.

Tian Feng, Dean of the Fast Thinking Slow Thinking Institute, analyzed in an interview with Star Market Daily that ByteDance's current recruitment signals are clear: it is building a self-iterating embodied data production line system. The primary customer for its self-developed robots is the Seed model team. Before the end of 2027, the equipment will likely be prioritized for internal data collection, making the possibility of consumer-facing retail humanoid robots in the short term relatively low.

In Tian Feng's view, the core logic behind choosing self-development for reducers and dexterous hands is to align hardware with the data system. "Human-like dexterous hands can reduce the loss when transferring human VR-collected data to robots. GR-3 tests showed that VR-collected trajectory efficiency is significantly higher than teleoperation; self-developed actuators adapt to learning-based control strategies, differing from the rigid positioning approach of traditional industrial reducers. However, ByteDance will not build its own complete machine factory; it will likely adopt a model of self-developed core solutions plus contract manufacturing, while maintaining a dual-track strategy: Seed self-develops the body, while Volcano Engine outputs embodied algorithm solutions externally."

He further stated that the model iteration cycle is very short, and what truly requires long-term accumulation is the data production line and hardware capabilities. "ByteDance is still filling gaps in its current organizational structure and core leadership, and competition is still in its early stages."
