# Anthropic Just Filed Its IPO Prospectus. Here's What Investors Learned

Anthropic, the company behind the Claude AI models, released its highly-anticipated IPO prospectus to the public on Monday. The AI giant aims to list its shares on Nasdaq under the ticker "ANT," reportedly targeting mid-November for its public debut.

Some of the numbers from the prospectus leaked recently, but this is investors' first official look at Anthropic's finances. With that in mind, here are some key numbers and facts investors just learned, as well as the most important information we don’t yet know.

## Revenue is growing at a rapid pace

Anthropic's revenue in the first half of 2026 came in at $16.3 billion. This is roughly *14 times* the revenue it generated in the same period in 2025. In the second quarter, Anthropic's revenue grew by 1,368% year-over-year. To say that this is a fast-growing AI company would be an understatement.

Perhaps the most impressive revenue figure is that the company's net revenue retention was about 900%, meaning that those who have been paying customers of Anthropic for at least a year are now spending *nine times* as much as they were a year ago.

## Anthropic lost money, but it isn't as bad as it looks

On one hand, Anthropic's prospectus shows an $80.7 billion net loss for the first half of the year, which might sound like a red flag at first. However, more than $72 billion of that was a non-cash accounting charge related to its convertible notes, which have become far more valuable than when they were issued.

Excluding this charge, Anthropic still posted an operating loss of $693 million, about 4% of its revenue. And on an adjusted basis, Anthropic was *profitable*, earning $1.6 billion of operating income.

Plus, the business's economics look strong and are improving fast. A year ago, Anthropic spent $2.01 on compute and infrastructure for every dollar of revenue it generated. In the first half of 2026, this had dropped to $0.55. And impressively, Anthropic has $131.7 billion in cash and short-term investments on the balance sheet, giving it plenty of runway to fund its growth (and this will certainly increase after the IPO, which will raise billions more).

## Shareholders won't be in control

Another thing the prospectus made clear is that the company's seven co-founders will retain a voting majority. Specifically, a single share held by the co-founders will carry 50.1% of the vote on most corporate matters. Plus, an independent trust will elect the majority of the board of directors.

## What we don't know

Anthropic's S-1 certainly contains a lot of information that was previously not public. After all, the document is roughly 400 pages long. But there's also a lot investors still don't know, especially when it comes to deciding whether to invest in the IPO.

For one thing, we have no idea what the offering price will be. We know the company was valued at $965 billion at its most recent private funding round in May, and reports suggest Anthropic could target a $2 trillion valuation in its IPO.

We also don't know the third-quarter results, even though the quarter ended nearly a month ago, and, perhaps most importantly, we don't know the total value of Anthropic's long-term compute commitments (although it was reportedly listed as $518 billion in an earlier draft). Many or all of these may be revealed in an amended prospectus closer to the IPO's pricing, but for now, there are still a few question marks.

The bottom line is that Anthropic's IPO prospectus shows a business that is growing rapidly, and one that is already close to breakeven when it comes to operating income. But until we know the IPO pricing, it's tough to say whether it could be a solid addition to any investor's portfolio.
