# Anthropic IPO Filing Unexpectedly Becomes Catalyst for Optical Stock Rally, Lumentum Surges 8.2% to Lead S&P

Anthropic's submission of its IPO prospectus has unexpectedly ignited a strong rebound in the optical sector.

On Monday, Lumentum Holdings' stock price surged 8.2%, leading the S&P 500, while Coherent Corp. rose 5.8% and Ciena climbed 4.9%. **The convergence of three positive factors—validation of AI capital expenditure data, expectations of potential supply chain protection policies, and signals of tightening supply of key semiconductor materials—has jointly driven a strong recovery in the previously sold-off optical sector.**

**Anthropic's IPO prospectus was officially filed on Monday, with its financial data broadly boosting sentiment in the chip and related hardware sectors.** According to MarketWatch, Evercore ISI analyst Amit Daryanani pointed out that after the optical sector suffered significant selling pressure last week, market interest is reigniting, with many investors having waited for Anthropic to release its S-1 filing as a signal to re-enter the market.

Meanwhile, **fundamental data in the AI industry continues to release positive signals.** Meta Platforms announced an equity financing plan, and SpaceX committed to providing $40 billion in financing for chips and other AI hardware. Daryanani stated that these developments send a clear signal to the market of "continued resilience" in AI investment. Furthermore, expectations that the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) may restrict imports of specific optical modules early next year, along with news from Asian markets about slowing supplies of key semiconductor materials, have further strengthened the investment thesis for domestic optical manufacturers.

## Anthropic Financial Data Validates AI Capital Expenditures, Investor Confidence Rebounds

The release of Anthropic's IPO filing has provided the market with an important window to examine the scale of AI infrastructure investment. Reportedly, Daryanani stated that the current profitability performance of the AI industry is "relatively healthy" from a fundamental perspective, and Anthropic's financial data has overall boosted chip stocks.

Meta's equity financing announcement and SpaceX's commitment of up to $40 billion in AI hardware financing further confirm the continued high-intensity investment by tech giants in AI infrastructure. **These signals collectively indicate to the market that the AI capital expenditure cycle has not yet peaked, and the demand logic for optical interconnects as core data center infrastructure remains valid.**

## Potential FCC Restriction Policies Reshape Supply Chain Landscape, Domestic Manufacturers Poised to Benefit

Reports indicate that Daryanani specifically highlighted the structural impact of FCC policy expectations on the optical sector. Citing industry experts, he noted that **the FCC is expected to restrict imports of optical modules from specific foreign suppliers early next year, a move that would effectively exclude relevant suppliers from the U.S. next-generation 3.2T optical module market.**

The impact of this policy expectation is significant—currently, about two-thirds of such components globally are produced by suppliers in specific regions. If restrictions are implemented, it will pose certain challenges to AI infrastructure deployment in the short term, but at the same time, **U.S. domestic manufacturers and allied suppliers will directly benefit from the resulting market space**, with companies like Lumentum and Coherent Corp. poised to capture corresponding order transfers.

## InP Supply Growth Slows, Capacity Bottlenecks Support Price and Demand Expectations

Weekend news from Asia also became an important driver of Monday's market movement. According to Daryanani, supply growth for indium phosphide (InP), a key semiconductor material, shows signs of slowing, **indicating that some suppliers are facing challenges in increasing InP capacity capable of meeting current speed requirements.**

The background to this supply-side constraint is that the rapid development of AI has fundamentally changed the pace of technological iteration in the optical industry. Daryanani pointed out that while traditional optical cycles usually span five years, the rise of AI has accelerated the frequency of channel rate upgrades to "nearly once a year"—meaning the leap in data transmission rates has sped up significantly.

**Faster channel rates, coupled with the continuous growth in the number of interconnects required by AI data centers, will continue to drive demand for optical devices.** The expansion of data center connectivity demand will also drive up demand for lasers, including InP-based products. Meanwhile, expanding capacity and product certification both take time, meaning supply-side release will lag relatively, implying that supply will remain tight for an extended period.

Daryanani concluded that these multiple dynamics "collectively support sustained demand for suppliers capable of expanding capacity and delivering products at the required rates," suggesting that domestic manufacturers with such capabilities, such as Lumentum and Coherent Corp., are likely to continue benefiting in this cycle.
