(Image credit: CnEVPost) Nio (NYSE: NIO) has kicked off its preparations for Nio Day 2023 and has begun the process of selecting a host city for the annual event. Here are some key facts about past Nio Day events. # Nio Day 2017 Nio held its first Nio Day in Beijing on December 16, 2017. The event was widely discussed for its huge costs, with Nio allegedly spending RMB 80 million at the time for hosting it. At the event, Nio unveiled its first production model, the ES8, with the Nio Power replenishment system centered on battery swap. The company also announced Nio Pilot, a driver assistance system, and Nomi, a virtual voice assistant, at the time. # Nio Day 2018 On December 15, 2018, Nio held Nio Day 2018 in Shanghai, its second Nio Day. Nio launched its second production vehicle, the ES6, at the event, and the lower-priced NT 1.0 platform-based SUV was a key sales driver for Nio for a long time afterward. On May 24, 2023, Nio launched the new ES6 based on the NT 2.0 platform. # Nio Day 2019 On December 28, 2019, Nio held Nio Day 2019 in Shenzhen. The company launched the new ES8 with 188 upgrades at the event and gave an appearance to the coupe SUV EC6. Pricing for the EC6 was not announced at the time, but was announced a few months later in July 2020 instead. Nio also unveiled its 100-kWh long range battery pack at the time. # Nio Day 2020 On January 9, 2021, Nio held Nio Day 2020 in Chengdu, Sichuan. This was the first time Nio held a Nio Day at the beginning of the following year due to the Covid pandemic. Chengdu as the location for the event was voted on by the Nio community users, the first time Nio has done so, and continues to do so today. Nio launched the ET7 at Nio Day 2020, its first sedan and the first model on the NT 2.0 platform. The company also unveiled a 150-kWh semi-solid-state battery pack, the second-generation battery swap station, at that time. # Nio Day 2021 On December 18, 2021, Nio held Nio Day 2021 in Suzhou, Jiangsu province. Nio launched the ET5, its second sedan, and unveiled its strategy for entering the global market. # Nio Day 2022 On December 24, 2022, Nio hosted Nio Day 2022 in Hefei, Anhui province, a city that is home to two of its vehicle assembly plants.
