Solana lowered its target slot time from 300 milliseconds to 250 milliseconds on September 18, marking its third speed increase since August. According to Odaily, the network’s overall throughput did not rise because the compute and data capacity per slot were reduced proportionally. The change is the third stage of the SIMD-0525 four-phase plan, with slot time having fallen from 400 milliseconds at genesis to 350 milliseconds, 300 milliseconds, and now 250 milliseconds. The final step to 200 milliseconds does not yet have a mainnet activation date and depends on validators keeping skip rates stable.
