Elon Musk Shows Off Starlink Streaming 5 Live Football Games on One Flight: United Calls It a ‘Game-Changer’

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Elon Musk highlighted Starlink's capability to stream five simultaneous live football games on a United Airlines flight, calling it a 'game-changer.' United Airlines endorsed the technology, contrasting with Delta Air Lines' rejection of Starlink in favor of Amazon's Kuiper. This highlights a growing divide among airlines regarding satellite internet providers, with some prioritizing Starlink for passenger connectivity while others opt for competitors.

Space Exploration Technologies Corp. (NASDAQ:SPCX) CEO Elon Musk hailed the company’s Starlink internet service, highlighting its ability to support multiple live sports streams during flights.

Starlink Is a ‘Game-Changer’

In a Sunday X post, Musk quoted a post by user DogeDesigner showing a passenger on board a flight streaming five college football games across different devices. “5 live football games streamed simultaneously on a commercial flight with Starlink,” he said.

Elon Musk vs Delta Airlines

Starlink has become a point of contention in the travel industry, with airlines like United, as well as Alaska Air Group Inc. (NYSE:ALK), opting to offer passengers the internet service, while Delta Air Lines, Inc. (NYSE:DAL) snubbed Starlink for Amazon.com Inc.‘s (NASDAQ:AMZN) Leo satellite internet.

Musk has locked horns with Delta Airlines and its CEO, Ed Bastian, saying that the airline could stand to lose customers, as well as saying that Bastian could lose his position as the CEO of the company over the Starlink omission. Bastian, on the other hand, said that Delta did not want to collaborate with Musk.

Jason Calacanis, Investor and All In Podcast host, backed Starlink, saying that Starlink availability now played a major role in deciding which flights he would like to travel by. "I’m picking commercial flights based on Starlink, not total time, route or price," Calacanis said.
