LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Bitcoin closed August with a 25% gain, trading at $79,000, marking its best August performance since 2017. Driven by regulatory clarity hopes via the Clarity Act and lower interest rates from Treasury intervention, BTC outperformed stocks. Despite surging past $80,000 temporarily, it remains below its October all-time high of $126,000.

Bitcoin (BTC) is concluding its best performance during the month of August in nearly a decade. Over the past month, Bitcoin's price has risen 25% to trade at $79,000 on Aug. 31. It's the cryptocurrency's best monthly performance since November 2024 and best performance during the month of August since 2017.

Bitcoin's gains in August have been achieved almost entirely during the month's second half. Over the past week, Bitcoin has risen above $80,000 on several occasions but fallen back below that mark each time. The cryptocurrency's August return has trounced the gains seen in stocks during the month. The benchmark S&P 500 index has increased 2.56% in August.

New Catalysts For Bitcoin

Bitcoin's big gain in August has been due to two significant catalysts. The first was U.S. President Donald Trump meeting with crypto executives and then calling on Congress to pass the Clarity Act. The Clarity Act would provide a regulatory roadmap for Bitcoin and other digital assets and is seen as necessary for the future development of cryptocurrencies.

The second catalyst has been the U.S. Treasury Department intervening in the government bond market to lower interest rates. Lower rates are seen as positive for risk assets such as crypto and stocks. Other digital assets have also risen sharply in August, with Ethereum's (ETH) price having increased more than 30%. However, Bitcoin's price still remains well-below its all-time high of $126,000 reached in early October of last year.

Bitcoin's Price Movements

Not enough analysts cover Bitcoin, so we'll look instead at its price movement over the past three months. As one can see in the chart below, the price of BTC has increased 10% in the last 12 weeks.
