Ford Stock (NYSE:F) Slips as it Loses Ground in the Second Quarter

LongbridgeAII'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.

Ford stock slipped over 1.5% despite ranking second in US market share behind Toyota, according to Experian's Q2 report. While the position is strong historically, investors reacted negatively. Additionally, Ford introduced a new executive chef focusing on efficient meal prep for employees. Wall Street maintains a 'Moderate Buy' consensus with an average price target of $16.29, implying 28.38% upside potential.

A bit of mixed news hit legacy automaker Ford (F) today, as the second quarter edition of Experian's Automotive Market Trends Report emerged. The news was actually mostly good for Ford, but only mostly. It turns out that Ford had the number two slot in market share in the United States, with only Toyota (TM) coming out ahead. It was not the best, but it was better than most of the rest. But this was not good news to investors, who sent Ford shares down over 1.5% in Thursday afternoon's trading. Ford has also seen a 11.36% rally in its share price over the past year.

Almost the Best

The numbers did not reflect a near miss for Ford, either. Toyota's market share in the second quarter came in at 13.7%. Ford's, meanwhile, was 11.2%. Behind them were Chevy (GM) at 10.7, Honda (HMC) at 9% and Hyundai (HYMLF) at 6.2%. Amazingly, the top four brands have maintained their positions for the last five years. Only those companies coming in at five or below on the last have seen much change in the overall order. And there has been quite a bit of change based on the numbers from Experian.

The news is not all bad here. Coming in second in terms of market share puts Ford ahead of many other carmakers. Not having the top slot is likely a hard pill to swallow, particularly in the United States, where a lot of Ford's marketing and brand recognition is focused. But coming in second is hardly a shame; just ask any silver medal winner.

Eating Good at Ford

Meanwhile, Ford has a chef. Rather, Ford Headquarters has a chef, and he recently went on Fox 2 Detroit to show off some "easy meal ideas," of the kind that might actually hit Ford's own dining service. Ford's new executive chef, Grant Vella, walked the Fox 2 crew through a set of simple ideas that apparently focused on chicken, which is widely known as one of the more popular menu items at Ford's dining hall.

The first meal Vella showed off was "crock pot chicken chili," followed up by "barbecue chicken sliders," and topped off by a chicken quesadilla. All of these dishes involve pre-cooked rotisserie chicken as their based, cut up, shredded, and added to the dishes accordingly, which means a lot of time saved. If Ford's employees eat that well, it is a safe bet they work well too, recalls aside.

Is Ford Stock a Good Buy Right Now?

Turning to Wall Street, analysts have a Moderate Buy consensus rating on F stock based on seven Buys and six Holds assigned in the past three months, as indicated by the graphic below. The average F price target of $16.29 per share implies 28.38% upside potential.
