Anthropic's major customers are restricting use of its latest Fable series AI models, and some are shifting to OpenAI. According to Sina Finance, Palantir and Booz Allen are expanding use of OpenAI Astra and can use a zero-data-retention option, while both companies have reduced their use of Fable models after Anthropic said in June that it would store data generated through Fable for 30 days for safety reasons. Anthropic plans to launch a new Enterprise Frontier Safeguards program later this fall, which qualified customers will be able to use for zero data retention. According to Sina Finance, it is still unclear what requirements companies must meet to qualify, but Anthropic has already identified participating customers including Salesforce, Comcast, and Visa. The article said Anthropic's customer data policy has become a major point of criticism in the AI lab industry, and Palantir CEO Alexander Karp publicly criticized AI companies for using customers' sensitive enterprise data to compete against them. According to Sina Finance, the policy dispute has benefited OpenAI, which is expanding its enterprise business to strengthen its competition with Anthropic.
