Rio Tinto's board is looking for a new CEO who understands mining better
After Jacob Stausholm took over as CEO of Rio Tinto Group, he repaired relations with Rio Tinto and led the company into new investment areas, including battery materials lithium. However, the company's board has requested Stausholm to step down and is currently looking for a leader who can maximize the potential of Rio Tinto's key growth assets, which include the Oyu Tolgoi copper-gold mine in Mongolia and the Simandou iron ore project in Guinea. According to insiders, setting a development direction for the coming decades means prioritizing operational expertise and performance records. This could position Simon Trott, head of Rio Tinto's iron ore business, alongside aluminum executive Jerome Pacheco, to succeed him after Stausholm's departure later this year. (Bloomberg)
