The South Korean government and ruling party promise to increase support for chip cluster and AI investment projects
On July 13th, Jinshi Data reported that the ruling Democratic Party of Korea and the government agreed on Monday to increase support for the large-scale chip cluster and artificial intelligence investment projects recently announced by the government, and promised to expedite relevant legislation. At the end of last month, the South Korean government unveiled the "Three Major Super Projects" plan, which envisions transforming the country through semiconductors, physical artificial intelligence, and artificial intelligence data centers, with a total required investment of 475.5 trillion won (approximately 316 billion USD). According to the plan, the government envisions Samsung Electronics building two memory chip manufacturing plants in Gwangju and the surrounding Jeollado region, and SK Hynix constructing two additional wafer fabs. Acting party leader Han Byung-do of the Democratic Party stated, "Given that the ruling party has established a special committee to support the three major super projects, we will actively provide legislative and budgetary support." Han Byung-do added that the Democratic Party will strive to pass a special law regarding "super special zones" by the end of the year to relax regulations and better support the plan
