Storage chip stocks edge up, Western Digital up 1%, SanDisk little changed
Storage chip stocks edged higher in after-hours trading on Monday (September 14). Western Digital (WDC.US) rose 0.67% to $429.78, hitting a session high of $431.02. SanDisk (SNDK.US) climbed 0.31% to $1,556.80, while Seagate (STX.US) gained 0.30% to $807.97. Micron Technology (MU.US) advanced 0.21% to $925.98, and Everspin Technologies (MRAM.US) edged up 0.16% to $14.75. Leveraged ETFs showed muted moves, with the 2x long ETF (MUU.US) up 0.21% and the inverse ETF (MUD.US) down 0.19%.
The sector saw a technical rebound after heavy selling pressure during regular trading. Western Digital fell 4.53% in the regular session, Micron dropped 5.25%, and MRAM plunged 9.19%, driven by industry inventory concerns. Analysts noted that the regular session decline may have overreacted to short-term negatives, with after-hours buying helping the sector recover slightly. However, trading volume remained light as investors await next week's industry demand data to assess whether the storage chip cycle has reached an inflection point.
