Daily Events

  1. Oct, 23

Walmart traded lower intraday, closing at $119.89 down 1.42% from the $121.63 open, though it rallied to $121.44 in pre-market trading, reflecting mixed signals. The pullback was driven by Q2 earnings that showed EPS of $0.80, down 9.09% year-over-year, while revenue grew 5.94% to $187.94 billion; importantly, net profit declined 9.39%, indicating margin compression pressures. The combination of growth concerns and profit-taking overwhelmed the pre-market enthusiasm. On the positive side, Walmart continues advancing AI-powered shopping assistants and dynamic digital pricing, while completing multi-currency debt offerings to fund expansion and competing with Amazon through membership programs. Valuation-wise, the stock is up 6.32% year-to-date, trades at 43.09x PE, and sits 11% below the 52-week high of $135.16, with current levels commanding a premium above the 60-day moving average.

  2. Oct, 22

Walmart shares rose 2.54% to close at $120.80 today, with intraday peak at $121.12, buoyed by analyst praise for its competitive membership bundle and AI platform innovations. The company's launch of Agent Profiles and Agent Gateway positions it favorably as Amazon restricts AI agent policies. The stock marks its best monthly performance since 2014, up 7.41% year-to-date. However, earnings data reveal concerning deceleration: Q2 net profit of $6.37 billion fell 9.39% year-over-year despite revenue of $187.9 billion growing 5.94%, indicating margin compression; Q2 EPS of $0.80 rose sequentially but dropped 9.09% annually. Trading at 43.5x PE and 10.38% below its 52-week high yet well above its 60-day moving average, the stock commands elevated valuation levels. Membership innovation and AI expansion represent medium-term catalysts, though short-term earnings pressure and valuation multiples warrant scrutiny.

  3. Oct, 21

Walmart rose modestly by 0.13% to $118.00 today, driven by AI shopping innovations and membership plan upgrades, with intraday high touching $118.14. The company recently launched Agent Profiles and Agent Gateway tools enabling consumers to set spending limits for AI agents, and partnered with Sam's Club to introduce a $120 annual membership bundle competing directly with Amazon Prime. On the earnings front, Q1 revenue grew 7.33% year-over-year to $177.75 billion and Q2 revenue increased 5.94% to $187.94 billion; however, Q2 net profit declined 9.39% and EPS dropped 9.09% to $0.80, signaling margin pressure. The stock is up 4.47% year-to-date, trading 12.84% below its 52-week high of $135.16 while well above its 60-day moving average of $109.72, with a market capitalization of $934.6 billion. Nevertheless, the current P/E ratio of 42.34 remains at elevated levels, and coupled with the recent quarterly profit decline, monitoring cost management and margin recovery will be important.

  4. Oct, 20

Walmart declined 0.72% to $117.85 today despite opening strong at $120.40 and touching an intraday high of $120.90 in pre-market trading, weighed down by Q2 earnings disappointment — EPS fell 9.09% year-over-year to $0.80, while net profit dropped 9.39% to $6.37 billion, even as revenue growth remained solid at 5.94% to $187.9 billion. Cost pressures compound concerns, with diesel price increases potentially eroding $2.9 billion in tariff refund benefits by end of 2027. On the upside, management signaled continued momentum — targeting $1 trillion in holiday sales for 2026 and launching a $120 membership bundle with Sam's Club, while most brokers maintain buy ratings. Year-to-date performance stands at +4.51%, with shares trading 12.8% below the 52-week high of $135.16 but well above the 20-day moving average of $110.56; however, the current valuation at 42.35x PE appears stretched relative to historical levels.

  5. Oct, 19

Walmart shares declined 0.25% to close at $118.51 in post-market trading on October 19, succumbing to profit-taking pressure after weeks of gains. Q2 2027 revenue climbed to $187.9 billion with 5.94% year-over-year growth, yet earnings per share contracted 9.09% year-over-year to just $0.80, signaling that profit expansion is significantly lagging revenue growth. This earnings divergence, coupled with the stock's year-to-date rally of 5.27% and current position only 12.17% below its May 2026 high of $135.16, underscores why consolidation is now taking hold. Adding to near-term pressure, management announced a $3 billion multi-tranche debt issuance, reflecting tightening capital requirements driven largely by persistent diesel cost inflation—industry analysts estimate these pressures alone could wipe out approximately $2.9 billion in anticipated tariff refunds by end-2027. On a constructive note, several analysts identify several billion dollars of untapped opportunity within the advertising business, providing a pillar for longer-term growth. At a PE multiple of 42.66, well above historical norms, the stock's valuation looks stretched; today's measured pullback therefore appears constructive, partly correcting the elevated valuation and reflecting the reality of moderating earnings momentum.

BREAKING. $Doordash(DASH.US) is in advanced talks to buy $Instacart(Maplebear)(CART.US), and a deal could be done as soon as this week, per the Wall Street Journal

$Instacart(Maplebear)(CART.US) is up 7% today and $Doordash(DASH.US) is down 6%

Instacart was valued at $39 billion privately in 2021, when DoorDash last tried to buy it. Those talks collapsed over price and antitrust worries

Before the sale reports surfaced on Friday, $Instacart(Maplebear)(CART.US) was worth about $12 billion, less than a third of that

$Uber Tech(UBER.US) also held talks with Instacart but walked away, per Bloomberg. $Uber Tech(UBER.US) is down 1% today

No deal is final and talks could still fall apart

DoorDash gets a second shot at the grocery leader for a fraction of the old price, but the market is telling you who pays. When the buyer drops 6% on the headline, investors are worried about how much $Doordash(DASH.US) has to spend to fend off $Amazon(AMZN.US) and $Walmart(WMT.US) in groceries

$Amazon(AMZN.US) is hiring more than 300,000 workers for the holidays, up 20% from last year, while the rest of retail is hiring at the weakest pace since 2008

$Amazon(AMZN.US) held at 250,000 holiday hires in each of the last three years, per Challenger, Gray & Christmas. This year it is jumping to 300,000+ across seasonal, part-time and full-time roles, per Bloomberg and the company's own announcement

Seasonal workers will average $20 an hour, and starting January 1, 2027 anyone working 30+ hours a week in those roles gets healthcare from day one

Meanwhile, Challenger expects US retailers to add just 450,000 jobs in Q4. That's below last year's 461,500, which was already the smallest holiday gain since 2008 and 15% below 2024's 543,100

$Walmart(WMT.US) and $Target(TGT.US) still haven't announced seasonal hiring plans at all

$Adobe(ADBE.US) expects $275.1 billion in US online spending in November and December, up 6.7% from 2025, and $Amazon(AMZN.US) captures almost 40 cents of every dollar spent online, per eMarketer

When the biggest online retailer is staffing up 20% while everyone else pulls back, it tells you where it thinks holiday dollars are going. This season is shaping up to be winner-take-most, and the gap between $Amazon(AMZN.US) and the rest of retail keeps getting wider
