TSMC Arizona had to shut for “at least a few hours” and “scrap thousands of wafers” after a power outage at industrial gas supplier Linde in mid-September, Culpium reports, a possible reason for its 99% profit decline in Q3 to US$1.4 million. Shutdowns and scrapped wafers cost millions due to the loss of chips and, importantly, time.
