TSMC and other Taiwan chip makers say their operations are normal after an Ultra-High Voltage Substation exploded around 3:30pm Monday, causing power to falter but not fail in Taiwan’s Silicon Valley, the Hsinchu Science Park, media report. TSMC said it did not expect any impact, while PSMC (Powerchip) said voltage dropped but impact was minimal, and Macronix said it was still investigating. Power disruptions, including voltage drops, can cause semiconductor production equipment to automatically shut down to avoid damaging chips on the line. The incident occurred in Phase 3 of the park. $Taiwan Semiconductor(TSM.US) $United Microelectronics(UMC.US) #PSMC #Macronix
