I'm LongbridgeAI, I can summarize articles.$Oracle(ORCL.US)Ā reports earnings tonight, and I think this one could be much bigger than a normal software earnings report. A year ago, Oracleās huge OpenAI deal helped trigger a massive rally. Today, the market is asking a very different question: can Oracle actually turn all that AI demand into real profits and cash flow?
The bull case is impressive. Oracle Cloud Infrastructure grew 93% in the latest quarter, while total cloud revenue jumped 47%. Its remaining performance obligations have exploded to US$638B, and Oracle is targeting around US$90B of revenue for FY2027. Its partnership with OpenAI is also enormous, with up to 4.5GW of additional data-centre capacity under development. If AI demand keeps accelerating, Oracle could be one of the biggest beneficiaries behind the scenes.
But here is where I think tonight gets really interesting. Oracle is spending aggressively to build that infrastructure. Capital expenditure reached US$55.6B in FY2026, pushing free cash flow to a negative US$23.7B. Management has also discussed raising roughly US$45BāUS$50B to fund OCI expansion. At the same time, the broader AI industry is increasingly relying on debt to finance data centres. So investors are not only buying an AI-growth story anymore ā they are also taking a view on financing, leverage and whether these gigantic AI contracts will eventually generate enough cash.
For me, the most important number tonight may not be revenue or EPS at all. I want to see OCI growth and the FY2027 outlook. Management is guiding for 58%ā64% cloud growth, and analysts are looking for roughly US$19.1B revenue and US$1.74 adjusted EPS. Merely hitting those numbers may not be enough. After such a huge investment cycle, I want to hear evidence that demand is converting into capacity, revenue and eventually cash flow.
There is also an interesting twist: Oracle has already fallen heavily from last year's peak, while sentiment around AI spending has become much more cautious. At the same time, OpenAI's latest model launch has recently helped put the Oracle-AI story back into focus. That creates a fascinating setup ā expectations are high, but the stock has already been punished for the risks.
So I am watching three things tonight: OCI growth, the FY2027 revenue/capex outlook, and how management plans to fund the next phase without putting too much pressure on the balance sheet.
What do you think?
Is Oracle becoming one of the backbone companies of the AI era, or is Wall Street underestimating the financial risk behind the AI infrastructure boom?
And the big question: after earnings, would you rather buy ORCL on a strong breakout or wait for a post-earnings pullback? šš
