# Nebius Down 30%: Is My AI Investment Thesis Under Pressure?

$Nebius(NBIS.US)

### From confidence to caution 📉

My $Nebius(NBIS.US)  position is currently sitting at approximately 30% in paper losses. I was initially confident in Nebius because of the long-term growth potential of AI infrastructure and rising demand for computing power. However, the recent sell-off has forced me to reassess my investment thesis. A promising industry does not automatically guarantee attractive returns for shareholders.

### CoreWeave’s Debt Raises Red Flags ⚠️

The recent weakness in $Coreweave(CRWV.US)  has highlighted a major risk in the AI infrastructure sector: **the cost of financing growth**. Heavy borrowing, rising interest expenses and massive infrastructure spending could eat into future profits and cash flow. Even with strong demand for AI computing, companies must prove that their revenue can justify these enormous investments.

The bearish sentiment has spread across the sector. Reuters reported on 14 October that Nebius shares fell 15.1% amid concerns about financing costs and rising interest-rate expectations. On 22 October, Reuters also reported that short sellers had accumulated billions in paper profits betting against AI infrastructure companies. Investors are increasingly questioning whether the AI boom can translate into sustainable profitability.

### My Strategy: No Blind Averaging Down

Nebius is not identical to CoreWeave, so I will not assume their financial risks are the same. Nevertheless, I need to monitor Nebius’s funding requirements, cash flow, customer commitments and progress towards profitability more closely.

For now, I will not average down simply because the stock has fallen. I want to see evidence of stabilisation and reassess whether the original investment thesis remains intact. If the fundamentals deteriorate, I must be willing to admit my mistake rather than hold on just to avoid realising a loss.

### Lessons from a 30% Paper Loss 💡

The AI opportunity may still be enormous, but growth comes at a cost. Sometimes the biggest risk is not choosing a company without potential, but underestimating the capital and time required to turn that potential into profits.

Confidence must be backed by evidence, and discipline matters more than emotions. Consistency over noise, risk management over blind conviction.
