Both delivered solid figures and yet their share prices moved in completely opposite directions! 🤔Here is the summary of what drove the split reaction between SK Hynix and Seagate Technology, even though both topped analyst forecasts:🚀 SK Hynix (+6.9% surge)1️⃣ Revenue: Record‑breaking Q3 revenue of ₩104.62 trillion, with an impressive 80 % operating margin2️⃣ Strong forward visibility: Long‑term customer deals have locked in over half its production capacity through 2027‑2028, powered by booming AI‑HBM demand3️⃣ Big shareholder boost: Announced a ₩100 trillion shareholder return plan🔻 Seagate Technology (−5.7% drop)1️⃣ Solid headline beat: Q1 revenue jumped 61 % year‑on‑year to US$4.2 billion, beating estimates plus upgraded guidance2️⃣ Sell‑the‑news effect: After a ~130 % year‑to‑date rally, its high valuation (P/E near 47.5‑48.7 x) left little room for missteps, triggering profit‑taking3️⃣ Cyclical & margin worries: Investors question whether 67.8 % gross margins have peaked, and fear expanded HDD supply may weaken pricing power💡 Key takeawayMarkets don’t just reward past earnings beats. - **Fair_Lemon5303 · 2026-10-28T08:27:46.000Z · 👍 1**: seagate also pays out close to three percent while the hynix line yields almost nothing, so the two end up with quite different holders
- **Fattycat** (2026-10-28T08:31:28.000Z): Seagate’s P/B stands at 69.85 versus SK Hynix’s 9.72. Seagate is priced much higher. With that high expectations, investors tend to lock in profits at even minor misses. Is my view make sense ?
- **Fair_Lemon5303** (2026-10-28T08:53:57.000Z): it earns more in a year than its entire book value per share, so price to book stops telling you much once a company gets there
- **Fattycat** (2026-10-28T08:58:47.000Z): Ok. When a company earns more in a year than its book value, P/B loses a lot of meaning on its own. Fair call.It may be just one quick red‑flag indicator here, rather than the full picture. For Seagat
