Recently, DHL Express announced plans to invest over 40 million euros to build a new aircraft maintenance hangar in Vitoria-Gasteiz, Spain, to enhance Spain's position in the company's global network. The new facility is expected to be operational by mid-2027 and will become DHL Express's second-largest maintenance center in Europe, after the Leipzig hangar in Germany. "We are delighted to invest in the new hangar in Vitoria-Gasteiz. Based on expectations for business growth, this new facility will provide strong support for our aircraft maintenance capabilities in the coming years," said Jesús Sánchez, Senior Vice President of Hubs and Gateways for DHL Express Europe. "Once operational, the facility will not only alleviate maintenance pressure on the Leipzig hangar but also create job opportunities for local technical workers, especially aviation technicians." Initially, the hangar will employ about 50 staff, primarily responsible for maintaining DHL's B757 fleet and other aircraft models. In addition to the hangar, the facility will include office spaces and storage areas for key components of cargo aircraft, such as engines, auxiliary power units (APUs), landing gear, and thrust reversers. The new facility will be located on the west side of DHL Express's hub at Vitoria Airport, covering an area of over 19,700 square meters, including a 6,600-square-meter hangar, 1,605 square meters of outdoor facilities, and 11,500 square meters of apron (runway). In line with DHL Group's sustainability roadmap, the new hangar will be carbon-neutral and, once operational, will reduce the number of flights to non-DHL-owned maintenance facilities in Europe, significantly cutting annual greenhouse gas emissions. Additionally, the facility will provide a shorter-distance advantage for the overhaul and recycling of grounded cargo aircraft on the Iberian Peninsula. --- > **Disclaimer**: This article is for reference only and does not constitute any investment advice.
