FWD Hong Kong ("FWD") announced the launch of the new "Easy Critical Illness Protection" series, including "CancerCare" designed for cancer survivors and "HeartCare" for patients with heart disease or stroke. It is the first participating critical illness protection plan in Hong Kong specifically designed for cancer survivors or patients with heart disease or stroke, offering simplified underwriting. The plan aims to provide limited-term premium payment for lifetime critical illness protection, filling the protection gap for those with a history of critical illness who find it difficult to obtain coverage. People who have suffered from severe illnesses are among those most in need of health protection. Data shows that cancer survivors have a 42% higher risk of cardiovascular disease than those who have never had cancer, while those with cardiovascular disease have a 13% higher chance of developing cancer than those without. Patrick Yu, Chief Product Officer of FWD Hong Kong and Macau, said: "FWD understands the challenges faced by those with a history of critical illness when seeking health protection. The results of the FWD Hong Kong Health Protection Needs Survey reflect that many middle-aged people face obstacles in obtaining critical illness coverage due to their medical history, with some even hesitating to purchase such insurance. We have always prioritized our customers' needs and launched 'Easy Critical Illness Protection—CancerCare' and 'Easy Critical Illness Protection—HeartCare,' offering the market's first limited-term premium payment for lifetime critical illness protection to fill the coverage gap for those with a history of critical illness. The plans provide simplified underwriting, allowing cancer survivors and patients with heart disease or stroke to obtain coverage without going through a complicated application process, enabling them to live their lives with peace of mind. We firmly believe that people at different life stages and health conditions should have the opportunity to obtain protection." The survey reflects that chronic diseases or a history of critical illness are the main obstacles to obtaining critical illness coverage. The latest FWD Hong Kong Health Protection Needs Survey shows that nearly 70% (69%) of respondents believe the process of purchasing critical illness insurance for middle-aged people is complicated, and over 80% (82%) think a medical examination or health report is required before applying. Among respondents who do not hold or consider purchasing health protection, more than half (56%) gave up due to long-term illness records or a history of cancer, heart disease, or stroke, citing reasons such as complex application processes, exclusions, or rejection. Notably, among respondents with relatives suffering from chronic diseases or a history of critical illness, over 60% (63%) said their relatives were unable to obtain suitable critical illness coverage or reinsurance after treatment or recovery, highlighting the protection gap. Key features of "Easy Critical Illness Protection—CancerCare" and "Easy Critical Illness Protection—HeartCare" include: 1\. Coverage for up to 115 critical illnesses and special diseases, including previously affected organs: "CancerCare" provides 62 critical illness coverages and 53 special disease coverages for cancer survivors, including cancer, carcinoma in situ or early-stage cancer of specific organs, acute myocardial infarction, and stroke, with coverage for previously affected organs; "HeartCare" provides 26 critical illness coverages, including cancer, and 23 special disease coverages, including carcinoma in situ or early-stage cancer of specific organs, for patients with heart disease or stroke. 2\. Simplified underwriting, no medical examination required: The insured only needs to answer as few as 2 health underwriting questions, the fewest among similar plans; the insured also does not need to undergo a medical examination during the underwriting process, avoiding a complicated and lengthy application. 3\. The market's first limited-term premium payment for lifetime critical illness protection: Premium payment terms range from 10 to 25 years, with coverage up to age 100. 4\. Free biennial health check-ups to maintain health, combining protection and savings: The plan provides health check-up vouchers on the 2nd, 4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th policy anniversaries; additionally, before the full 100% of the original sum insured is paid, the insured can receive an amount equal to the guaranteed cash value and special bonus 10 upon surrender. FWD strengthens collaboration with Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital to provide professional support for customers' nutritional diets. FWD and Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital jointly offer professional nutritional diet consultation services for eligible insured under the "Easy Critical Illness Protection" series in the second policy year, including initial nutritional analysis, consultation, and follow-up, all conducted by Hong Kong Sanatorium nutritionists. Dr. Walton Chan, Deputy Medical Superintendent of Hong Kong Sanatorium & Hospital, said: "With medical advancements, the survival rate of cancer patients continues to improve, and many survivors face post-treatment sequelae. We are pleased to expand our collaboration with FWD, following cancer and rehabilitation planning consultation services, to further provide tailored professional nutritional diet consultation services for FWD customers, aiming to offer comprehensive rehabilitation support for those with a history of critical illness, helping them establish a healthy lifestyle through diet during their recovery journey."
