Due to the death of former President Carter, current President Biden has ordered the national flag to be flown at half-mast for 30 days in mourning.
Trump will be sworn in under the half-mast flag.
In January 1973, when President Nixon was inaugurated, it coincided with the period when the federal government was flying the flag at half-mast for former President Truman. Although this overlap in timing seems coincidental, it carries a symbolic meaning of power transition.
However, the flag code is not federal law, so theoretically Trump could order the flag to be raised to full staff during the inauguration ceremony. So will Trump do that?
