# How to transfer USD from a mainland bank card to a Hong Kong bank card

When we need to travel abroad, we may need to transfer some Hong Kong dollars or US dollars to a Hong Kong bank card.

Previously, we discussed transferring Hong Kong dollars to a Hong Kong card. Now, let's see how to transfer US dollars to a Hong Kong card.

Here, I'm using Bank of China (Mainland) to transfer to Bank of China (Hong Kong). Let's see what the process looks like and whether there are any fees.

## **1\. Steps for Transferring from Bank of China (Mainland) to Bank of China (Hong Kong)**

**1\. Enter the Foreign Exchange Purchase Page**

Open the Bank of China app and click on "Foreign Exchange Purchase/Sale":

**10\. Enter Recipient Information**

The recipient's name can be found in the "Menu" section of the Bank of China (Hong Kong) app, and the account number can be found under "Home" --\> "Account Overview" --\> "Foreign Exchange."

Note: If you're transferring Hong Kong dollars, check the account number under "HKD Savings" in the Bank of China (Hong Kong) app. If you're transferring US dollars, check the account number under "Foreign Exchange."

As you can see, I transferred 7,000 and received 7,000—no fees were deducted in the middle.

I also checked the transaction details in both the Bank of China (Mainland) and Bank of China (Hong Kong) apps and found no service charges.

## **2\. Conclusion**

This time, I transferred from Bank of China (Mainland) to Bank of China (Hong Kong) **without any fees—pretty sweet**.

The process involves four potential fees:

Service fee: Definitely 0

Telegraphic fee: Definitely 0

Cash-to-spot exchange difference: Definitely 0

Intermediary fee: Most likely 0, but occasionally charged

Some people online claim they were charged intermediary fees when transferring from Bank of China (Mainland) to Bank of China (Hong Kong). If that happens, it's probably the intermediary fee.

From my friends and online posts, most people report zero fees for such transfers.

I made the transfer around 10:00 PM on March 23, and the Hong Kong card received the funds by 2:30 PM on March 24—pretty fast, just one day.

- **黄金牛的现金流 · 2025-04-15T14:14:17.000Z**: What I want to tell you is that cross-border remittance actually arrives in real-time, it's just that Bank of China has a special position to review cross-border remittances. The moment this person clicks the mouse, the recipient in Hong Kong gets the money. I've personally tested this.
