# Former Meizu executive Li Nan said that the best phone this year is still the iPhone Air

Li Nan gave a simple reason, that is, the iPhone Air has excellent industrial design. In his eyes, the manufacturing method of the Xiaomi 17 Pro's back screen is obvious, yet he couldn't figure out how the iPhone Air's integrated volcanic glass design was made.

Previously, some netizens claimed that the iPhone Air's "volcanic crater" was made from a thicker piece of glass, shaped using water jet milling.

Li Nan responded that this method is far from precise enough and impractical for mass production. He speculated that it might involve a high-precision heat treatment process.

As a veteran in the mobile phone industry, Li Nan is considered a professional. Even he was clueless, which shows the complexity of the iPhone Air's manufacturing process and difficulty.

Apple's craftsmanship and use of materials in "hidden technologies" are indeed better than domestic phones, and they are more willing to invest in R&D. In this regard, domestic phones are basically following Apple's lead.
