It doesn't have much to do with games, in my opinion. The industry thinks Genie will challenge game engines because it demonstrates a certain similarity. Genie can change video content in real-time based on certain user inputs (WASD), which in form looks somewhat similar to a game; but it's not a game. Its essence is more like a large language model, which can determine subsequent video sequences based on user input signals + the current video sequence. This architecture inherently makes it incapable of handling the task of designing large, complex 3D games. It can generate beautiful images, but it cannot orchestrate the logic of complex, large-scale games. The real application scenario for Genie is simulation, where it can serve as RL infra for robotics/autonomous driving.If I must say, I believe, as management stated, that Genie's positioning for Unity should be an additional high-quality asset. The content generated by Genie will become nourishment for the Unity platform.And Unity is not an ordinary SaaS company either; the game engine business has a technological moat. Today, even the most skilled programmer cannot handcraft a AAA game without using a game engine, and the same goes for AI. If AI wants to develop games like a human, the only solution is also to use Unity like a human."
