Why do foreigners prefer Bangkok, Ho Chi Minh City, and Kuala Lumpur, which have relatively backward infrastructure, over the more modern Shanghai?

Because the internet is not convenient. Domestically, a whole set of strict "monitoring" has been designed, which completely isolates foreigners in the information age!

Not to mention foreigners, how many Chinese people even know how to bypass the firewall?
