Recently, a university classmate of mine had his account forcibly liquidated by the platform. I think it's necessary to warn everyone about the importance of risk control.Without risk control awareness, always being fully invested or even using leverage to the max is not investing; it's gambling. My classmate had no fear of the market, went all-in with leverage, and when he made big profits, he didn't think about how to take profits but became even more inflated and kept gambling. The final outcome was being liquidated.To be honest, I've been in the market for 6 years (starting with A-shares at the end of 2020, switching to US stocks in November 2024 and continuing to this day). Although I've never lost money and have had positive returns every year (maybe just luck), I've experienced several significant drawdowns. At those times, I was filled with frustration and disappointment. That feeling is really unpleasant!Take US stocks for example. From the end of 2024 to now, there have been a few black swan-like events. The one at the end of February/beginning of March this year was a black swan. Fortunately, starting in 2026, I gradually strengthened my risk awareness; otherwise, I would have experienced a drawdown of over 20% like in March 2025.Risk control includes position management, stop-loss management, diversification, hedging, etc. But the most crucial part is risk control. Suppose you have $100k, and the market crashes 10%:① If you go all-in with $100k + $100k in leverage, your actual drawdown is as high as 20%.② If you only go all-in with $100k, your drawdown is 10%.③ If you go in with half your capital, keeping 50% in cash, your drawdown is 5%.The principle is very simple, but when you're in the game, very few people can actually manage their positions well!"
