In terms of news, Samsung Electronics' foundry business is approaching a critical turning point. Driven by demand for HBM base chips and major US tech clients, the division's capacity utilization rate is expected to reach 100% in the second half of this year, potentially marking a turnaround for its chronic loss structure that has plagued it for over a year. Current estimates place Samsung Foundry's capacity utilization between 70% and 80%. Combined with existing order backlogs and contract progress, achieving full production capacity within the year "has almost become a certainty."

At its Q2 earnings briefing, Samsung Electronics stated that utilization rates improved across all process nodes compared to the same period last year, with advanced processes below 8nm having "reached their highest levels." The company also expects orders for its 2nm project this year to more than double year-on-year. While acknowledging it is difficult to provide an exact timeline for returning to profitability, it noted that "it can be achieved in the near future."

Goldman Sachs believes that recent volatility in the AI sector is not due to deteriorating fundamentals but rather a resonance of crowded trades, liquidity withdrawal from large-cap financing, and rising oil prices fueling interest rate hike expectations.
