Lucid Group has appointed Munsterhuis Autobedrijven as its first retail partner in the Netherlands, expanding its footprint to Hengelo. This move marks a shift toward a hybrid retail strategy, adding authorized sales and service points to support the Lucid Air and the upcoming Gravity SUV launch PUBT.
So, Lucid is finally getting pragmatic about its retail footprint. By partnering with Munsterhuis, they’re basically admitting that the pure direct-to-consumer (DTC) model is too slow and capital-intensive for their current stage PUBT. This ‘hybrid’ approach is a smart, low-CapEx way to build the service density they desperately need before the Gravity SUV hits the market PUBT. We’ve seen service bottlenecks kill momentum for other EV startups; this is them trying to avoid that trap.
The timing is the key signal—expanding to Hengelo now suggests they’re clearing the pipes for Gravity while trying to squeeze more volume out of the Air sedan in a mature EV market PUBT. For the portfolio, this reduces the execution risk on the European rollout. It’s not a massive revenue jump today, but it’s a necessary maturity signal. I’d watch if they replicate this partner model in Germany or Norway next. Bottom line: they’re prioritizing market access over brand purity, which is the right move for survival.
