When that time arrives, the system submits the order for you automatically, so you don’t need to watch the screen. A time condition is not a new order type. It is a scheduling feature you can add to limit orders, market orders, Price-Triggered Buy/Sell orders, and other order types: - **Regular orders (e.g. limit, market) + time condition:** the order is submitted automatically at the set time. - **Conditional orders (e.g. Price-Triggered Buy/Sell) + time condition:** price monitoring starts at the set time, and the order is submitted once the price condition is met. ### How to Set Up a Time Condition Order Go to the order page from a stock’s detail page or the Trade page, then: 1. Choose an order type (e.g. Limit, Market, Price-Triggered Buy/Sell) and enter the price and quantity. 2. Turn on **Scheduled Submission** (off by default). 3. Select the trigger date and time. The date can’t be earlier than today and can be up to 3 months ahead. 4. Select the trading session (e.g. Regular Hours Only, or Regular + Pre/Post-Market) and the time in force: Day (DAY), Good ‘Til Canceled (GTC), or Good ‘Til Date (GTD). 5. Review the order timeline at the bottom, tap **Place Order**, then check the details on the confirmation page and submit. **Time zone:** The trigger time follows the time zone of the exchange where the security is listed. Hong Kong stocks use Hong Kong Time (HKT); US stocks and US options use US Eastern Time (ET). **Time in force and trigger date:** If you choose GTD, the GTD expiry date must be later than the trigger date. If you pick the trigger date first, the GTD date can only be set after it; if you pick the GTD date first, the trigger date can only be set before it. ### Trigger and Execution Rules When the set time arrives, the system handles the order in one of two ways depending on its type: | Order Type | What happens at the set time | When funds/positions are frozen | | ------------------------------------------ | ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------- | -------------------------------------------------------------- | | Limit, Market, Enhanced Limit | The order is automatically submitted to the exchange. | When the order is created. | | Price-Triggered Buy/Sell, Stop, Stop Limit | Price monitoring begins; the order is submitted once the trigger condition is met. | Not when created; only when the order is triggered and placed. | **Example:** TSLA is currently at $400. You set a Price-Triggered Sell with a trigger price of $390 and a time condition of 2026-06-30 10:00 (ET). Before that time, the system does not evaluate anything. From 10:00 onward, as soon as the price is at or below $390, the sell order is submitted. **What if the trigger time falls outside trading hours?** The order won’t be lost; it will be submitted when the selected trading session begins. For example, if you set 04:00 ET but choose “Regular Hours Only,” the order will be sent to the exchange at the 09:30 open. Because conditional orders don’t freeze funds when created, the order may fail to submit if available funds or positions are insufficient at the time of triggering. Please make sure your account has sufficient balance in advance. ### Viewing Your Orders **Where to find them:** Untriggered time condition orders appear in the following locations with a time label and countdown (e.g. “Triggers in ~3 min,” “Triggers in ~20 hr”; if more than 12 hours away, the specific date is shown). Orders combining time and price conditions show “Price monitoring starts in ~\*\*\*.” ### Important Notes **Hong Kong Enhanced Limit Orders:** When trading Hong Kong stocks, adding a time condition to an Enhanced Limit Order may cause the order to fail. This is because HKEX rejects orders whose price deviates too far from the current market price. Since the market price may move significantly between when you set up the order and when it is submitted, the order price may fall outside the range HKEX allows. We recommend leaving a reasonable buffer when setting the price, or adjusting the order price based on market conditions before it triggers. ### FAQ **Q: Is there an extra fee for time condition orders?** A: No. The time condition itself is free. Once the order is filled, standard trading fees apply. **Q: Will my order definitely be filled at the set time?** A: Not necessarily. The time condition only determines when the order is submitted or when monitoring begins. Whether it fills depends on market price, order type, and liquidity. A limit order may not fill if the price isn’t reached; a market order may fill at a price different from what you expected during volatile periods. **Q: What happens if the time I set is when the market is closed?** A: The order will be submitted automatically when the selected trading session begins. For example, for US stocks with “Regular Hours Only,” it will be submitted at the 09:30 ET open. **Q: Which time zone is used when setting the time?** A: The time zone of the exchange where the security is listed: Hong Kong Time for Hong Kong stocks, and US Eastern Time for US stocks and US options. It is unrelated to your phone’s time zone. **Q: When are my funds tied up after placing an order?** A: Limit and market orders freeze funds or positions when placed. Conditional orders such as Price-Triggered Buy/Sell freeze them only when actually triggered and placed. **Q: How far ahead can I schedule an order?** A: Up to 3 months, and no later than the order’s GTD expiry date or the expiry date of the option or warrant. --- > **Disclaimer: This article is for reference only and does not constitute any investment advice.**
