# The EU requires new electronic devices sold to have a Type-C charging port

According to France 24, on the 28th local time, the European Parliament stated on social media that "from now on, new electronic devices sold within the EU, such as mobile phones, tablets, digital cameras, and keyboards, must be equipped with USB Type-C charging ports." The EU believes that standardizing this requirement will simplify the lives of local residents, and consumers will no longer need different chargers and charging cables. The European Commission stated that this move will save the EU €200 million annually and reduce more than 1,000 tons of electronic waste. However, the EU's requirements for laptop charging ports are expected to take effect in early 2026, during which time relevant manufacturers will have ample time to make adjustments
