Sun Dong continues his visit to Shanghai, inspecting Shanghai Jiao Tong University and pharmaceutical equipment service providers

The Secretary for Innovation, Technology and Industry, Sun Dong, continued his visit to Shanghai today (14th).

In the morning, Sun Dong inspected the "Big Zero Bay" technology innovation source functional area at Shanghai Jiao Tong University and visited the one-kilometer incubator exhibition hall. He listened to introductions on the construction and development layout of this new R&D platform, the transformation projects of technological achievements from universities, and the entrepreneurial situations of faculty and students, to support the agglomeration of key industries.

He stated that the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region government is committed to promoting the development of the Northern Metropolis New Tian Technology City, providing more land for Hong Kong's innovation and technology industry to support the Lok Ma Chau Loop Hong Kong Park as a base for promoting the development of downstream industries.

Sun Dong also visited the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute at Shanghai Jiao Tong University to understand the university's disciplines, talent, and locational advantages in the field of artificial intelligence. He listened to the institute's introduction of its fruitful achievements in core technology R&D, results transformation, and talent cultivation.

Sun Dong then met with the leadership of Shanghai Jiao Tong University to exchange views on strengthening cooperation between universities in Shanghai and Hong Kong in innovation and technology.

In the afternoon, Sun Dong first visited a comprehensive pharmaceutical equipment service provider that offers pharmaceutical processes, core equipment, and overall solutions for system engineering to global pharmaceutical companies. He then visited a high-tech enterprise focusing on cutting-edge technology and clinical applications of a single-port universal minimally invasive surgical robotic system, as well as an innovative investment fund platform in the biomedical field.

Sun Dong stated that the SAR government is leveraging an efficient market combined with industry-oriented government policies to promote innovation and technology, actively exploring new economic growth points. "We will focus on emerging innovation and technology industries with strategic significance, including life and health technology, artificial intelligence, and robotics, accelerating the formation and development of a new real economy with Hong Kong advantages. The potential in the life sciences and biomedicine technology fields between Hong Kong and Shanghai is enormous, and close cooperation between the two cities will accelerate the transformation of innovative research and development results in biomedicine technology. At the same time, the Innovation and Technology Bureau will continue to work with relevant departments to fully introduce potential and representative domestic and foreign innovation and technology enterprises to settle in Hong Kong or expand their businesses, promoting the development of related industries."

Subsequently, Sun Dong attended a dinner with representatives of local enterprises in Shanghai, introducing Hong Kong's unique advantages and encouraging them to "go out" through Hong Kong as a springboard to expand into emerging overseas markets.
