The elderly who received the check-up expressed that the GUM AI detection process was quick, the results were simple and easy to understand, and the check-up was conducted at the community center, making it very convenient without the need for long travel. According to reports, GUM AI is a technology developed by the University of Hong Kong Faculty of Dentistry that combines artificial intelligence with mobile medical technology for oral health assessments, aiming to alleviate the shortage of dental professionals in Hong Kong and the issue of elderly individuals not receiving timely treatment. Kowloon East Legislative Council member Tang Ka Piu stated that the program will last for 3 months, conducting check-ups for the elderly every two to three weeks to compare their oral conditions and evaluate the effectiveness of GUM AI in community trials. Volunteers will visit the Lions Club Lam Tin Day Centre, the Homeowners Association Clubhouse at Hoi King Garden, and the Hong Kong Federation of Trade Unions' Healthy Ageing Service Centre at Tsui Ping Centre or the Sau Mau Ping Community Hall, with each session checking the oral health of 60 to 80 elderly individuals. Election Committee sector Legislative Council member Chan Pui Leung expressed hope that through regular AI dental check-ups and feedback on results, along with health education, the elderly can maintain oral health and gradually develop good oral hygiene habits.
