# The Green Building Council's network system was hacked, and the data of over 6,000 individuals was leaked

The Hong Kong Green Building Council (January 23) announced that on the 21st, it became aware that personal data of green building practitioners was intended to be sold on the dark web by unauthorized individuals. The data involved includes the names, company phone numbers, mobile phone numbers, and membership numbers of 6,666 green building practitioners, including green building specialists, generalists, and experts. Preliminary investigations suspect that the network system of an outsourced service provider was hacked.

The Council issued a statement on its official website, indicating that it has taken the matter seriously, immediately closed the relevant platform, notified affected individuals, reported to the police, and informed the Office of the Privacy Commissioner for Personal Data.

The Council places a high priority on data security and handles related matters with a rigorous attitude. It has taken action to contain the incident; initiated a series of measures to enhance personal data protection, including reviewing computer network security facilities, further improving system defense capabilities, striving to reduce the likelihood of similar incidents occurring, and fully cooperating with the Office in following up on the incident
