# The wave of AI is coming: Hangzhou uses robots to report news with zero errors, sparking heated discussions

The Hangzhou Cultural Broadcasting and Television Group in China used AI robots to broadcast the "Hangzhou News Broadcast" program during the Spring Festival, achieving a zero-error performance that sparked heated discussions. Many students in China's communication programs felt pressured and decided to abandon the communication field in favor of other disciplines when applying for graduate schools.

According to Chinese media outlet Hongxing News, during this year's Spring Festival, the "Hangzhou News Broadcast" utilized AI anchors for reporting, achieving zero errors during the broadcast, which surprised many Chinese netizens with the AI anchor's performance being similar to that of a real person.

Amid the wave of AI, many media organizations in China, from state media CCTV to local media, have launched AI anchors. For example, during the National Two Sessions in March 2024, CCTV's financial new media recreated AI anchors Xiao Dong and Xiao Tian based on CCTV hosts Meng Zhandong and Guo Ruotian, who answered various questions at the anchor desk during the sessions.

The report noted that a communication student at a university in Beijing, referred to as Xiao Chen (pseudonym), expressed that seeing many television programs recently introducing AI hosts and anchors has put psychological pressure on her.

She said that in the past, she thought that mastering scripts and having a good education and appearance would secure a job at a television station, but now it seems there is still much to learn, and she cannot outperform AI in accurately reading scripts, recognizing obscure words, and maintaining standard pronunciation. Therefore, she has long considered changing her major when pursuing graduate studies.

Another student, Xiao Zhang (pseudonym), majoring in broadcasting at a university in Sichuan, believes that the anchor profession will not be replaced by AI robots. The promotion of AI robots serves as a reminder for students to learn artificial intelligence technology to enhance their work efficiency, but emotional communication and interview writing between people still require real individuals.

Liu Haiming, a professor and doctoral supervisor at the School of Journalism at Chongqing University, analyzed that the greater advantage of artificial intelligence lies in integrating existing information, but journalism deals with future emergencies and requires thinking about future work. Therefore, the emergence of AI anchors will not lead to a massive disappearance of anchor positions or traditional journalism jobs
