# Multiple new road regulations will take effect from March 1, allowing parking vehicle visual display devices to show information

The Transport Department reminds drivers that several new regulations aimed at facilitating road users will take effect on March 1. The department stated that the new regulations are designed to benefit the public, enhance road safety, and promote the application and development of new automotive technologies in Hong Kong, aligning with international vehicle construction and maintenance standards.

The new regulations include relaxing the information that can be displayed on visual display units when vehicles are parked. When the vehicle's parking brake is engaged, meaning the vehicle is parked, there will no longer be restrictions on the information that can be displayed. Authorities also allow drivers to use mobile phones or other telecommunications devices to operate remote parking functions under specified conditions, provided that the safety performance of the remote parking system meets the technical requirements of the Transport Department.

Designated types of electric vehicles will no longer need to apply for a fast road permit, allowing electric taxis, electric private minibuses, electric buses (including private and public buses), electric trucks, and electric rescue vehicles with a rated power of no less than 7,000 watts to operate on fast roads without needing to apply for a fast road permit.

To improve driving safety, all vehicles equipped with extendable overhead structures must install a height warning system before a specified date. Additionally, the maximum height for single-deck buses will be relaxed from the current 3.5 meters to 4.0 meters.

The Transport Department will launch a series of promotional and educational activities and arrange briefing sessions for the relevant automotive industry to introduce the legal requirements and application procedures
