The Transport Department stated that the government will allow drivers to use remote parking functions under specified conditions to assist with safe parking. The safety performance of the remote parking system must meet the technical requirements of the Transport Department, and vehicles can only be equipped with remote parking systems approved by the Transport Department. The government will also relax the information that can be displayed on visual monitors when vehicles are parked. Additionally, starting from March 1, designated types of electric vehicles will no longer need to apply for a fast road permit, including electric taxis with a rated power of no less than 7000 watts, electric private minibuses, electric buses, electric trucks, and electric rescue vehicles. The department also indicated that the government requires all vehicles with extendable overhead structures to install height warning systems. To facilitate a smooth transition for the industry, mobile cranes registered for the first time before March 1 must comply with the new requirements on the renewal inspection date on or after September 1; for vehicles that are not mobile cranes but have extendable overhead structures, if the first registration date is before March 1, they must install height warning systems by the renewal inspection date on or after September 1 next year. Other technical revisions include increasing the maximum full height of single-deck buses from the current 3.5 meters to 4 meters, and allowing the use of light-emitting diode (LED) modules as vehicle lights, in line with international standards. A spokesperson for the Transport Department said: "The new regulations aim to benefit the public, enhance road safety, and promote the application and development of new automotive technologies in Hong Kong, aligning with international vehicle construction and maintenance standards." The Transport Department will launch a series of promotional and educational activities and arrange briefings for the relevant automotive industry to introduce legal requirements and related application procedures. The department will also write to local agents of vehicle manufacturers and vehicle importers, reminding them to follow up on relevant subsequent work to comply with the revised regulations.
