# Minister of Education Huai Jinpeng visits Shenzhen to investigate the work of technological innovation in universities and the construction of new research-oriented universities

Huaijin Peng, Secretary of the Party Leadership Group and Minister of the Ministry of Education, visited Shenzhen for research, deeply engaging with Shenzhen Jingtai Technology Co., Ltd., Shenzhen Guangming Science City, Shenzhen Medical Academy, and Shenzhen University of Technology. He learned about the empowerment of drug research and development by new technologies, synthetic biology research, brain facility applications, medical technology innovation, and the construction of disciplines in new research-oriented universities, and presided over a symposium on research-oriented universities. Huaijin Peng emphasized the need to deeply understand the changing trends in global higher education, promote the reform and innovation of governance systems and educational models in new research-oriented universities, advance the integration of industry and education, and the convergence of science and education at a high starting point and high quality. He called for vigorous promotion of emerging disciplines and interdisciplinary construction, the cultivation of top innovative talents, the expansion of the connotation and development direction of new research-oriented universities, and the exploration of establishing Chinese standards and paradigms for new research-oriented universities. He hopes that Guangdong Province will actively promote the construction of new research-oriented universities, advance university reforms in a classified manner, leverage the unique geographical advantages of the Guangdong-Hong Kong-Macao Greater Bay Area, and further strengthen support for the construction of new research-oriented universities, making them a highland for regional technological innovation and the cultivation of top talents
