# The import of ox bile opens up: The supply chain is expected to become stratified, can the "gold price" myth be broken?

Recently, the National Medical Products Administration and the General Administration of Customs jointly issued a notice regarding the pilot program for the import of bezoar for the production of traditional Chinese medicine, announcing the commencement of a pilot program for the import and use of bezoar. Bezoar from countries without a mad cow disease ban, which meets China's customs quarantine requirements and drug quality inspection standards, is allowed to be used in the pilot program for the production of traditional Chinese medicine. Following this, the General Administration of Customs announced that starting from April 23, 2025, the import of qualified Argentine bezoar will be permitted. Zhang Yi, CEO and chief analyst of iiMedia Research, told reporters that the early pilot import volume is relatively small, which is a significant benefit for high-end traditional Chinese medicine companies such as Tong Ren Tang and ZZPZH, alleviating raw material supply risks, stabilizing product capacity, and meeting the production needs of large enterprises. In the long term, this may lead to a stratification of the supply chain, as small and medium-sized pharmaceutical companies have weaker access to natural bezoar raw materials, which will force them to focus on differentiated markets. From the perspective of raw material prices, some believe that this move expands the channels for obtaining bezoar and to some extent helps solve the raw material shortage problem faced by pharmaceutical manufacturers, positively impacting the supply of medicinal materials and stabilizing bezoar prices. However, some industry insiders hold a conservative view, believing that it will be difficult to drive prices down in the short term
