# Japanese Shares Flat on Market Caution

Japanese stocks were little changed on Wednesday, with both the Nikkei 225 and Topix indexes trading flat as investor caution prevailed following the conclusion of US-China trade talks in Stockholm without an extension to the current truce.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent noted that any agreement would require President Donald Trump’s final approval, while Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick confirmed that the August 1 tariff deadline for other countries remains firm.

On the domestic front, investors awaited the Bank of Japan’s latest policy decision, with the central bank widely expected to leave interest rates unchanged as it weighs the potential impact of US trade measures.

Notable gainers included Fujikura (+8.4%) and Furukawa Electric (+8.5%), while Keyence (-4.3%) and Sakura Internet (-5.7%) posted sharp losses.
