# "Exporting a lithography machine to China is equivalent to the profit from 200,000 tons of pork," said the Chinese ambassador to Ireland on China-U.S. and China-Europe trade cooperation and obstacles

On August 18th, Zhao Xiyuan, the Chinese Ambassador to Ireland, accepted a live interview with Sean Moncrieff, the host of Ireland's Radio "News Talk," to introduce China's position on issues such as the Ukraine crisis, China-U.S. relations, and China-Europe cooperation. Ambassador Zhao stated that China and Europe should not be satisfied with merely being commercial partners but should establish close political mutual trust and promote more achievements in technological cooperation and cultural exchanges. In the past few decades, China-Ireland economic and trade cooperation has maintained a stable growth momentum, but in 2023, Ireland's exports to China saw a significant decline, attributed to restrictions on semiconductor exports due to U.S. export control policies. A Dutch company exporting a lithography machine to China earns profits equivalent to exporting 200,000 tons of pork to China. However, influenced by so-called national security factors and external pressures, we seem to lack sufficient trust in each other, leading to some obstacles in cooperation in these areas. If China and Europe continue to deepen mutual trust, both sides will be able to promote cooperation to achieve more and broader results
