In a first, China takes data centres underwater to tackle cooling challenge

China is launching the world's first operational underwater data centres off the coast of Shanghai to address cooling challenges in computing. Developed by Highlander and state-owned firms, these submerged servers will utilize cold ocean currents for cooling, significantly reducing energy costs. The project, supported by government subsidies, aims to serve major clients like China Telecom and relies on renewable energy sources.
